World of Warcraft - Item Upgrade
The upgrade feature for items allows players to increase the level of equippable weapons or armor. This increases the stats of that equipment, in addition to sometimes adding buffs or rolling an affix again.
It is important to note that although you can upgrade magic and common equipment, it's usually not worth the cost. Rare and exclusive gear will quickly outclass upgraded magic and common gear.
Cost
The player must pay gold to upgrade an item. The cost of upgrading an item varies based on the item's current status and type of upgrade. Upgrades to weapons are typically cheaper than upgrades to armor since weapons have less requirements. The amount of Gold needed increases as an item is upgraded.
An upgraded item will also have improved stats, which can boost its performance in various ways. This could mean increasing its attack power critical strike chance, or damage per second. An upgraded item may also provide additional buffs to the unit it's equipped with. These upgrades can be used to boost the overall strength of a group or a single unit, and could have a significant impact on the gameplay.
The NPC for upgrading items can be located in the game. These NPCs are located in the major questing areas or capital cities. Players can also locate item upgrader s in dungeons that have high-level bosses, and by chatting with NPCs in their faction's garrisons.
The World of Warcraft item upgrade system allows players to improve the quality of their weapons, armor, and trinkets. The process is similar to the process used for gear reforging in Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor however, instead of using the appropriate currency players must visit an NPC for upgrading items to complete the process.

Rerolling upgraded items is only possible if the item that was upgraded was an Epic Rare, Rare or Unique. The maximum upgrade level of an item is determined by the item's level and its quality.
